Most saturdays I'd take my son
to go fishing down by the dock
Take him away from video games
away to a place without a clock
Because we tell time by
the position of the sun
We go home when dark approaches
We'd always have so much fun
I taught my little boy how to fish
and I'm so proud of those moments
Now that he's a teen I just wish
that we had more of those times
But I've got his picture on the wall
of him holding up those bluegill
and boy, he looks so small!
My boy is turning into a man!

- Comment from author about the poem: I cried when I read this to my teenager and he hugged me and said "I love you!" so I guess I'm doing something right! It's the days he wants to be left alone I wonder. He used to be my little buddy and I miss that.

You gave him life, let him live it.
let him spread his wings and become the fine up standing young man we all know he's going to be!
Your poem is precious, there is nothing like a mothers love. ww
Thank you so much for your wonderful encouraging words! I appreciate it!
YW Christina!
Thanks for sharing CHRIS it must be awesome to be a MOM ~ especially when they are BABIES. I'm sure you noticed (especially as you are a Nurse) that Babies grow and after 12 very interesting years of development (I've got Friends who are MOMS) ~ overnight they turn into TEENAGERS ! Then as you know the "Pleasure of Parenthood" really start ! I hope to find out for myself one day. An elegant poem ~ thanks for sharing ~ Hugs for a lovely MOM ~ Your Friend BRIAN
Thanks so much for such kind encouraging words! Thanks for the hugs, they were needed. Christina
Great write, all just part Of growing up
Thanks Tony! Much appreciated!
Welcome
Yes. You know how I feel about my son and I know your son is terrific, as terrific as his Mom. BTW fishing is a great thing to teach. Does get them outside in a quiet environment with fresh air!
Thank you for your generous comment, WBL! It's great in summer, but it leaves us with less to do in winter. Especially with the negative wind chill numbers like today! Thanks again, you made my day!
Those memories are the best. Something to look forward to in our old age.
Nice poem
Yes, I had never thought of it that way. Being a grandma and going fishing or just having those sacred memories. Thanks for your thoughtful comment!
