Walls

elphaba993

Walls back up
Firmly in place

I thought I wanted to feel again...
I was wrong.

The numbness is much easier
Than this devastation.

That's one mistake
I won't let myself make
Again.

I refuse to let my guard down
I refuse to be vulnerable
I refuse to hope.

The mask slides back into place
And honestly
It's a relief.

My walls are back up
Firmly in place
Because God knows
The next time they come down
They'll shatter me with them.

Very deep, I understand how you feel on many levels. Sometimes walls need to stay up, but sometimes they break for the best. Great writing!

As long as you are feeling vulnerable the walls need to be up. They say time heals all. But I would take a little peek in a crack before i went out again. Nicely done.
