A hero's journey

Firebird

People say the great war but what is great about men giving up their lives? If you go to war you have sealed your fate, a life of sorrow and death. But we will always remember those who have died for us. They have given us this life, a life of joy, happiness and freedom. But still today there are men and women dying to keep us safe. So what is so great about this war, where a hero's journey comes to an end?

WELCOME IZZY ~ Thanks for sharing your first poem which is very thought provoking. WW1 (1914 ~ 18) was GREAT because of its dimension (it was a big war) and cost the lives of 17 million people with 20 million wounded. WW2 (1939 ~ 45) was even worse with over 70 million killed and over 100 million wounded. The costs and losses in any WAR far outweighs any gains and PEACE is always very fragile, There are still people dying in Japan as a result of the two Atomic Bombs (1945). Hundreds of soldiers and civilians die every day as a result of Strife between Nations "When will we ever lean ~ When will we ever learn ?" Thanks for caring. Please check my Poems ~ Thanks BRIAN
