BLACK FACE

Sade vassel

I'm not just another black face, but my story is another black girl's story without a mother in a deprive community. Don't act white they say, don't bleach your skin, wear your natural hair and walk with pride. Show them your confident to be black. Words of wisdom one will say; but where's the wisdom if I'm belittled, shamed, scorned because my makeup is too dark, taunt because I'm the darkest in the class and was put down because of my over the top black feature. "Big nose"

Don't act white they say. Respect your ethnicity, your great great grandparents are from the mother land, don't put them to shame. But I'm disapproved by a black men because I didn't meet the expectations of what their looking for, my black colour may threaten the business. I may invite my sisters and brothers to rob.

Don't act white they say, don't follow their path. Find yourself a fine--- educated black man, where you can find your roots together and embrace them. But when I try to find myself a nice--- educated black man as they say, I'm turned down because of the thickness of my hair and my dark pigmentation. My hair doest bonce when I run and my first name isn't Sarah or Rebecca, so yet again I'm crossed off the list.

Bleached my skin, permed my hair, add a little extention in and got a nose job. I'm accepted to work in one of the biggest firms and was engaged to one of London's fine-- educated black man. I was respected by all and was called strange and usual names I never heard before, BEAUTIFUL, GORGEOUS, PULCHRITUDINOUS. words I've never heard in my life.

Don't act white they say, resounded in my confused brain as I laughed with my own coloured brothers and sisters who once scorned me, as I looked them in their deceitful faces, memory flashes rapidly then I come to realised that not even the black what's to be black. They say don't act white, don't be white, but what's acting white or being white. As i figured there's no simple explanation to this colourism, I'll act white just to be well liked by my own.

WELCOME SADE ~ Always remember that BLACK is BEAUTIFUL. We are what God chose us to be and we have to embrace that. I'm PINK (it' in my GENES) and I thought i was fine until i went to Port Elizabeth in South Africa ! When I looked round and saw how beautiful the Black Guys and Girls were i felt like an ugly pink pig ! But they were kind to me and assured me I was OK ~ just different ! To be LOVED we first have to learn to Love Ourselves ! Thanks for caring and sharing ~ Yours BRIAN (UK).
