Lonely hearts,bearded faces,
boxes benches resting places
laceless boots,tired feet
shuffle 'round city streets.
Threadbare coats bodies thin,
dirty hands litter bins,
paper blankets what a pity,
such is life in cardboard city.
Empty bellies,chillblained hands,
plastic cups begging alms,
hungry eyes full of pain,
biting winds,freezing rain.
Love is dead broken hearts,
families torn far apart,
drunken voices shout and mutter
wasted lives in the gutter.
Cold hearts will make the claim
he only has himself to blame,
loving hearts will stop and sigh
there,but for God's Grace go I.
