Not folly, then, is this

Zarhgon

What is it that you even do to me?

Above my world you dazzle like a sun,

Love burning bright like wildfire to a tree,

Down fall your vivid rays; I come undone.

Your purest incandescence never fades,

It blazes like a phoenix born of gold!

Just through your beauty joyfulness cascades,

The soft light of the sunrise takes me hold.

How can it be that even solar rays

Seem gloomy when near your spellbinding eyes?

The sun does not illuminate my days,

But it is you kindling the fiery skies.

Not folly, then, is it when I pursue

Young Icarus and his path up, to you.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This is the first sonnet I ever wrote. I'm uncertain as to how obvious the message is, but my intention was to write about a person unreachable by the speaker, yet as this perfect person gives such happiness and vitality to the speaker, taking the role of the sun in their life, they will continue to attempt to reach them, and even justify it, even if it will doom them, much in the same way that Icarus's wings fell apart and he fell to his death. I'm very interested as to what others might think, as I was relatively happy with the finished product but expect that many criticisms could be made. So, if you have any constructive criticism, I would absolutely love to hear it. This might be a bit pretentious of me, but oh well, I just wanted to make sure how I felt about the poem could be seen, hahaha.
