The Search for Life
The space between us,
The long silence from
Your knee to my hand,
This stretch of universe
Filled with overwhelming
Emptiness where even the
Sound of my heart
Is lost and forgotten.
This is the distance
Between galaxies,
Between stars and planets
We hope support life
As on ours, longing to
Discover that we
Are not alone.

From your knee to my hand
Cannot silence the sound of
My heart beating wildly as
A small bird who thinks
Nothing of letting go of
The branch and flying
Over to the next tree.

Cannot escape the weight
Of our love as it draws
Everything near it
Into its center
Swallowing the light
Of your smile and the
Sound of my laughter
Without judgment.
Everything is of equal value
To the heart exploding.
