Alicia

GoldenGates

A light-hearted smile hid her world full of fears,
A demon inside had controlled her for years.

She wanted to change, but her weakness was stronger,
than the fight in her heart which existed no longer.

"You're young and so beautiful, don't give up on yourself,
Focus on your future, your family, your health."

I knew that my words would not change her life,
but maybe these words could help remove the knife
which stuck in her heart, causing sadness and pain,
Could she could evict this demon, alive in her brain?

We smoked our last cigarette that Thursday night,
The sun was still shining, the sky filled with light.

"Have a great weekend, I'll see ya Monday!"
Who would have known you'd be gone on Sunday?"

Another life taken by a quick fix of dope,
A drug that creates such a false sense of hope.

Your light-hearted smile hid your world full of fears,
You deserved to see more than just 28 years...

WELCOME GG ~ Thanks for sharing a very elegant ~ but sad ~ poem and a loving tribute to your Friend ALICIA. Heroin is a killer and no respecter of persons. I work in a College with Teens and Young Adults and for some heroin is both their life and death. 28 is no age ~ just on the threshold of life ! You will find MPS is a very empathetic site and we all support each other in the vicissitudes of Life & Love. Thanks for sharing and caring ~ I am sure you found sharing this very moving poem cathartic. Please check my poems ~ Thanks BRIAN (UK)
