Fits tune: Song 46
('Drop, drop, slow tears')
Based on parts of Psalm 51
*********
Have mercy on me, Lord, you loving, kind
That I forgiveness now in you may find
According to your mercies my sins take
Clean heart in me create, right spirit make
Wash me from sin, I do confess, here plead
Come relieve, cleanse me, tend now to my need
For my sin 'tis against you, it defiles
I penitently wait on you a whiles
Come now restore, that I thus humbled made
Give thanks, praise to you, ransom price you paid
So here repentant heart [be]'fore throne of grace
Empower me [to] continue [at] even pace
At even pace, to follow you, be healed
By you, your children to you have you sealed
I cannot save myself, cannot atone
But trust to you my Saviour, you alone

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 10.10. metre. I don't know why tune name is 'Song 46'. The brief two lines each verse seem to allow for a sort of staccato wording, in short expressions of thought, desire, longing, etc. Could be suitable for a Lent theme.
