Blue Song in Morning
“If we are to write this song
it must surely be the blues.”
Though she protests at what he suggests
he listens to her views;
“I’m happy now, in love with him.”
and he replies,
“That’s no excuse!
For I was with you when you were down
when romance went astray
when you tossed your pillows in despair.
I held you close, stroked your hair
rubbed your back, and kissed your frown away.
And you did the same for me;
chased my lovesick blues with sympathy.
So wipe the smile from your words.
Shed some tears as we compose .
Fill this song with suffering;
hopeless cries that a sad heart knows.
And don’t arrange it for piano,
guitar, saxophone, or bass
for only a violin can weep
stains upon a lover’s face.
Just pretend today’s a bygone day.
Make believe we never kissed .
Imagine our hearts have broken away
and our transgressions don't exist”
As she starts to write,
he, again, sees her wedding band
But, in the red-rising Sun
his tear-filled eyes . . . see only an evil plan.

Stress and dismay between loved ones is always a very gutwrenching existance. Very good work Phil.
Great stuff Phil - Part 2 tomorrow? Evil plan?
a sad but wonderful rendering of love gone a stray I love the instrumental part. WW
Great write
Seems a little more complicated than love sick blues, maybe some guilt thrown in. Great piece.
another good un .. this time filled with melancholy blues .. I sense a sequel in the offing ...
