Abyss

poetboy5454

Struggling to catch my breath as it's thrown

Tumbling down, though I had once flown

Losing sight of the stars, embraced in darkness

Collapsing, broken, falling in the abyss

Fears encroaching, surrounding me

Holding me down, dragging me under

Thrashing weakly, trying to get free

Suddenly a light shines, I stare with wonder

For a moment, they all fade into ashes

I reach out to clasp the key I need

Breaking away, as the illusion crashes

Once again I get back up and bleed

Never forgetting my chains

I spread my wings and let go

Soaring away from where dread reigns

Only defeatable, never an unkillable foe
