As January ends and February starts, the shelves are filled with soft toys and hearts.
We plan we scheme, we ready our silver, wishing the Valentine post to deliver.
But my love is not in gifts, in presents, in things, It can’t be measured in flowers or rings,
it cares not for riches or treasures of gold, it only asks that I have you to hold.
My love does not need everyday to be perfect, or payment of any kind to be worth it,
And though my card may be marked with a cross, it’s without your kiss that I would be lost.
Some days I may falter when I could have done better, but my love will still continue unfettered.
In those moments I feel down with my head in the sand, you lift me by taking a hold of my hand.
I’m sorry if ever I’ve led you to doubt, and you’ve wondered if maybe you should have run out.
But I love you, I want you, I need you it’s true, your dreams, your desires, I cherish those to.
No my love is not in gifts, in presents, in things, it’s in life and everyday simple beginnings.
It’s your smile, your laugh, your eyes at sunset, the way you sing when you think no-one can hear it.
My love is for walks on the seafront, and rain in the park, for snuggling up as we lay in the dark.
Memories I treasure with new ones still richer, to make them, to share them, to see them in pictures.
My love is for our children, their hopes and their dreams, it threatens to burst my heart at the seams.
Not just for this day called Valentine, I will always be yours and I hope you’ll be mine.
And I know you may think that these are just words, written to woo you with romantic verse,
but It’s not what I write, it’s the things that I do, that in time will show you these words to be true.

- Comment from author about the poem: I realize my writing is that of an amateur but it is from my heart. I was on the edge of loss, I might still be. I woke up from complacency and this is what I wrote. I am grasping on to hope.

WELCOME FRIEND ~ Thanks you for your first POEM ~ I love doublets and the inside rhyme you have in each doublet. There is ample rhythm throughout the poem to make it really flow. The subject of the poem ~ MY LOVE is something we can all empathise with ! Throughout our lives we fall in and out of love and learn to cope with the agony and ecstasy of love. Your poem touches on many aspect we all share ~ I love it ! As you final doublet suggests it is the things that we do and the hope that we have which makes the experience of love worthwhile ! Thanks for caring & sharing ~ Yours BRIAN (UK). Please check my poems thanks ~ B
Thank you for your kind words Brian. Though I feel alone for the moment I recognize that we all meander through the highs and lows of love at one time or another. Sharing this poem and reading your comment has helped me feel a little less submerged. Though my love is deep I can only hope it will be enough to reach down and lift me up to the surface. Thank you.
