Fits tune: Coelites Plaudant
('Christ the fair glory of the holy angels')
********
Christ's passion we recall, graces here so fine
Salvation to all be, here is pleasant line
Comfort to weary souls, our burdens He bears
And in our sorrows shares
Passionate in your love, you worked us to save
We saved by your merits, nothing to you we gave
That could help, assist our cause, you save, you alone
You do for us atone
Your blood shed, sacrifice, off'ring eternal
You do save each one now, that unto you call
Accepted through Christ the Son, and none else, see
Can our Redeemer be
Sin's stains are washed away, each dark blot removed
Forgiveness now for us, your love you have proved
For us you gave your life, and before you died
'Tis finished', then you cried
Your death was not the end, tomb opened, arisen
You burst forth there in power, rock and earth riven
Death's victory lost its sting, you now live for ever
You die no more, never
So celebrations bright, vanquished not the light
Of the world, but full seen, Christ the one between
Man and God, as Advocate, Mediator sure
Living for evermore

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 11.11.11.5. metre. The last line can fit in 6 syllables also. I have tried to retain some of the archaic feel of the original 9th Century hymn by St Rabanus Maurus. The original hymn includes references to the Archangels Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, and Mary the mother of our Lord.
