Tough Love

Bay

There was a boy I once loved

He was dead as dust.

Warm to the heart,

Cold to the touch.

He told me I was worthless

And so there I laid,

As I waited for the day,

Someone would come to my aide

I screamed and cried

As his anger unleashed.

And so his fist,

Left a mark on my cheek.

He called it 'tough love'

And maybe it was

He gave me a shove,

And told me to pause--

As my head hit the floor,

I reached for the gauze.

I thought he loved me,

At least in the beginning.

Every time he hit me,

My head started spinning.

After a while,

I knew what to do.

I reached for my bags,

And said, "I'm leaving you"

He tried to swing,

But I stepped away

For this time,

He had no say

I was gone,

And that's a fact.

This girl ran…

And never looked back.
