Salt

Velvetlascivious

On my beaten horse I ride

Through churning rising swollen tide

And further still the shore from me

near in sight but far from reach

My hands are raw from gripping rope

The thickness fills my tightened throat

Eyes well and burn with brimming tears

We brave the ocean of my fears

I urge him on, my gentle beast

as the waves crash in around my knees

Salt air fills his stinging lungs

saturates the bit between teeth and tongue

We fight for the shore through the violent sea

I for him and he for me
