Marilyn Monroe (Beauty Is Only Everlasting If You Never Grow Old)

I could never write one word that could capture all that you are
But the earth could not keep you so heaven made you a star
Skin of porcelain, lips like a rose, ocean blue eyes and a tiny mole
You looked right through the nation and touched us deep in our soul
We wanted to own you in every image bought and sold
But beauty is only everlasting if you never grow old.

You captivated America and it was magic
It should have been Camelot but it was far too tragic
From the side of the bed you reached for the telephone
60 million loved you and yet your all alone
Solitude surrounded by multitudes that adore
And “Mr. President” who made you his whore.

Take the pills; take them all, to free my mind
Then I’ll sleep by the rainbow, once upon a time
Slurred and soft my voice comforting as I drift away
I’m floating in the clouds and can no longer stay.

An angel has died gasping and clutching a phone
For even God could not bear such beauty to be so alone
So he rang up Norma Jean and asked her “please come home”.

Silence,

Silence,
The receiver has gone dead,
No more struggles in my head,

Silence,

Silence,
Her body is cold
For beauty is eternal if it doesn’t grow old.
