Repentant Returnings

Fits tune: Ellers

('Saviour again to thy dear name we raise')

Based on 2 Chronicles 7 v.14 - 15

**********

Come to the Lord, your Lord, Him come and seek

Hear His promise now to humble and meek

That if His people, those called by His name

Return unto Him, He will receive, no blame

If they His people humble themselves, do

Turn from pride, vanity, He will renew

If they do pray and seek His face here sure

And turn from wickedness, His grace implore

The will He hear from heaven, His dwelling place

And will forgive their sins, them all efface

And too will heal their land, give blessings fair

Enough for all to partake, have rich share

For says the Lord, my eyes shall open be

And my ears they shall too be opened, see

To regard the prayers made here in this place

In Zion's Temple, here His mercy, grace

Cause us to search our hearts Lord, to you turn

That for you we with holy passion burn

Forgive pride, strife, confusion, vanity

Help us your good will, your wisdom, too see

That one thing sure, the only thing will do

Repenting, turning back to you anew

Though worldly systems plan for lasting peace

'Tis only your peace that shall never cease

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 10 10 10 10 metre. The last verse seems a 'spiritual' or maybe 'religious' answer, seeing people are on about 'the only thing to do' as a UK Election approaches. Eloquent and comforting words in the original evening hymn in the clip.
