You Never Knew Your Name

Jane Frye

Just a whisper in the night that no one hears.
For a moment your cries breaks the silence and then disappears.

If only one chance with one word to give,
to a life that was given, but never to live,

I would breathe out your name with all of my sorrow,
to the child in my arms, knowing there were no promises of tomorrow.

Just a prayer in the night when all went wrong,
You had a name, and you did belong.

Paulo Coelho said, "Tears are words that need to be written." It's the only way I know to make sense of life. Thank you for your comment.

Your tears are very well written, Jayne. I feel for you and the one you lost.

Thank you, but I need to clarify. I wrote this for a friend who lost her baby unexpectedly an hour after she was born. It was devastating and affected family and friends, but left both parents besides themselves with grief.
