Peace Prayer

orchidee

Fits tune: St Catherine [Walton]

(one tune to 'Jesus, Thy boundless love to me')

Psalm 72 part

*********

Note: 'He' or 'he/him' refers originally to King Solomon, and ultimately

to Jesus' title of King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

The last line of each verse may be repeated in some tune settings.

*********

Give your judgements, O God, we pray

To Kings, Queens, Governments alway

That they shall judge with righteousness

Look on them, do graciously bless

And too that they with poor shall deal

With mercy, judgement, for their weal (well-being)

He shall judge the poor people

Banish oppressors, those who steal

The children of the needy save

Restoring blessings that He gave

Before their persecutors there

Took away their rightful share

But he shall all oppressors break

What in they trusted, he shall take

So godly rule, authority

Shall then be seen, fair justice be

And they shall fear you, e'er as long

As sun and noon endure so strong

He shall come down then like the rain

Upon mown grass, and graces gain

As showers that water the earth

He will provide, there be no dearth

His dominion from sea to sea

No place where his rule shall not be

His name it shall continue for e'er

Continue long as sun is there

All nations shall be in him blessed

In him shall find comfort and rest

'Tis God alone works wondrous things

So all creation to Him sings
