They're All Lies
Every single one of them
You give me bad names and call me by every one of them
You say I'm not worth it, I don't deserve it, I'm not good enough
You said growing up I never really had it rough
You said I would never amount to anything
That I would always stay behind-the-scenes unseen,
That I would never experience the love of family,
You said you didnt want me, that I was unclean
You said I would never make a name for myself
That I would live alone without any help
And that I would die alone without the love I never felt
But those are all lies
I made it and I'm happy inside
I got a purpose and a message
My future is bright
And if these things seem hard for you to realize
Just think back to those made-up lies

Some people want you to fail because they are a failure already and hate being one alone .
WELCOME "HR" THANKS FOR YOUR FIRST POEM ~ which is excellent in both its presentation (written style) and message. I agree with your premise that we are responsible to find our "gift" and to build our self esteem and self respect. What we are is a gift from GOD & Our Parents ~ what we make of ourselves is our gift back to THEM ! My parents encouraged me and in the UK we have an excellent education system (from the cradle to the grave) and ample opportunity for work (if we valued our education) if we are prepared to work. We all need a little encouragement from Family ~ Friends ~ School ~ Employers and the Church etc ~ personally I got enough ! We must all support each other and don't let the Prophets of Doom and the Critics get us down. I am an ENCOURAGER on this site ~ it is very important not to knock people down !
