You're Beautiful

Mandi

“Look at her what a mess.”

Everyone gets stuck in their own world and don’t realize how hurtful words can be, and I am a mess today.

“You’d look so much better if you lost weight.”

They didn’t mean it to be so negative. They were just being honest, and I do need to lose weight.

“What an ugly fatty, oink oink. Ha ha ha.”

It may be at my expense but it’s true. They are laughing together…that’s a positive right?...

“Get out of the way you take up so much space.”

Sorry...

“Your six months pregnant you look the same.”

Yeah, I am…pregnant that is.

“All you have to do is try and you’ll lose weight. What’s your excuse?”

Ignore them. Don’t let it get to you. Stay positive.

“Aren’t you embarrassed about the way you look?” “I couldn’t be fat like you.” “What a slob.” “She’s disgusting!” “Leave the fat girl be.” “…fat.” “Fat.” “FAT!”

QUIET!

Who are you to judge me

You think I don’t own a mirror

Your words are nothing compared to my thoughts

I’m a mess, it’s true, and I can’t have it together everyday

I’m not perfect and I’m very aware

What do you think it’s going to do throwing negativity my direction

Just…SHUT UP!

“I always thought she was so nice, man was I wrong.”

Am I supposed to just let you say that to me

 “What a bitch.”

Me, do you hear yourself

 “Fat asshole.”

You want an asshole, you got it

I let their words enter me like daggers

They burn with rage more and more

I can’t hold my tongue every time anymore

I lash back with a dis and a slur

They’ve tainted my heart

Why leave the house, it takes too much to be presentable

Layers to hide and contain what I can

Constant dieting and then inevitable quitting

Failing again and again and again

Struggling to be the smallest bit acceptable

Every day hating my reflection

“Hello, I think you’re beautiful.”

Right? Sure you do…if you’re blind

“I like the way you look.” “Your eyes, your smile, you are gorgeous.”

No, there’s no way. You think I’m disgusting, everyone does.

“I don’t care what everyone thinks, you’re beautiful to me.”

I don't know about that

“I love you.”

...me

He never waivers in his words

But it’s more than that

The way he looks at me

When he reaches out and takes my hand

When he holds me in his arms

I never knew I could fit so comfortably

It’s like he was made just for me

The negativity fades away

I’m left with his love

His kind words, his admiring glances

I struggle to believe it but when he speaks

It gets harder every day to think what he says isn’t true

How can there be anything wrong with me

When someone like him loves me and thinks I’m beautiful

People can be cruel

They get so caught up in their everyday

They forget that we all are struggling with one thing or another

Don’t bring others down

Remember words do and can hurt

And don’t let others bring you down

Hang in there, somewhere out there is someone who loves you

Someone who will remind you your value

Because no matter what anyone says

You are worth it and you are beautiful
