Little Life

Fits tune: Living Lord

('Lord Jesus Christ, you have come to us')

Psalm 39

*********

I said, I will

Take heed to my ways

That my tongue not sin

All my days

I will my mouth with bridle keep

While wicked are now before me

I too dumb with a silence was

Help, me see

I held my peace

Even from the good

My sorrow was stirred

Good I should

Have done, and not held back from it

My heart was hot in me, it burned

Then I did speak out with my tongue

Thus I turned

I said, Lord me

Make me know my end

Measure of my days

Wisdom send

Show me my frailty, briefest days

As a hand-breath they are, a span

My age nothing before you is

You know man[kind]

Truly each one

At best state is vain

Walks in vain show does

All again

Gathering riches quick they do

Knowing not who after  them be

To take their place, their goods to gain

They not see

Hear Lord, my prayer

Give ear to my cry

Look, view now my tears

Be you nigh

O spare me, grant me now your strength

I trust you do me good, me keep

Before this brief life ends, do so

Guard your sheep
