Wooden Castle

niallprideaux

Outside, there's a wooden castle.

A world where anything goes.

You can be anything you want to be,

and you're free from pain and woes.

You can save the princess, be the princess,

or a princess saving a princess,

then your younger sibling comes in,

and makes it an innocent mess.

Its a world with spiders as big as the moon,

and dragons small as ants,

the ground is made of lava

so hold tight to every one's hands.

The sun goes down and it's time to go,

the lava cools back to gravel,

but this world's in your mind's eye,

so don't worry, it's not far to travel.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Remember when you were 6 years old playing with toys or outside with your friends, and the hardest thing was choosing what flavour ice cream you wanted? I was thinking about childhood one night and it drew me to the image of a wooden castle; it's so basic but when you're a child (at least before we were so dependent on technology) it was all you needed to have a good few hours of fun. My kids are definitely getting one when I have them.

Loved it. Sparked my imagination, reminded me of what seems forever ago. Great write.

Good write. When I was a kid we made our own castles from mounds in the ground. Mind you I was a kid many, many years ago.
