They pick apart what is wrong with you
But never what is right
They criticise the colour of your skin
Because you're far from light
They cannot comprehend your beauty
They stereotype you as one who's obscene
Yet here you are exquisite in your grace,
My beautiful ebony queen
Your hair as soft as the wool,
on a newborn lamb
Each strand igniting a tale of a struggle
"I know who I am"
The underlying gold undertones
Shown when the sun reflects against your dark skin,
Emphasises not only how prestigious you are
But the tastefulness of your melanin,
You are built to be the strength of your home
You are built to be powerful
Against the conventions of society
You are built to be courageous
You are built to be a strong black queen.
