Ascension Aspirings

orchidee

Fits tune: Llanfair

('Hail the day that sees Him rise')

'Alleluia! after every line

*******

Eyes aloft now, see the sight (Alleluia!)

Christ ascends the realms of light

Completed work Father gave

All peoples He came to save

Heaven awaits eternal guest

He all-blessing and all-blest

Mighty victor o'er the grave

He the Way to heaven did pave

High-sung praises, angel-throng

Rejoice and join in the song

With us mortals here on earth

Made by Him sons of new birth

Awesome, gravity defied

Disciples on mount espied

Christ up taken in the cloud

Shattered is death's darkened shroud

His the glory, His the power

All worship Him every hour

He the Lamb, the Lion too

Done what none other could do

Promise of the Spirit sent

When Jesus to heaven went

Returned to His throne above

Establishes reign of love

Joys most wondrous, salvation

He achieved for each nation

Grant us grace on earth below

'Til your endless glories show (Alleluia!)

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 77 77 metre with Alleluias! Ascension Day today (Thursday). The 'Alleluia' after every line can make this drawn-out to some, but they're part of the triumph of the day, of the occasion! The end of verse 4 is still true, even in these sad days.
