Deus Vult!

Gary Edward Geraci

Deus Vult!
God will it!
Ultimate,
Holy Writ.
The Way full;
Time truthful;
Fruitful earth
A new birth.

Deus Vult!
God will it!
Incarnate,
Spirit filled.
Christ himself;
Gift of self;
Itself one
New kingdom.

Deus Vult!
God will it!
Sanctify,
Just one guide.
Magistrate;
My path straight;
Straits of life
Cause no strife.

  • Comment from author about the poem: A predominantly dactylic, monometer written during a silent religious retreat for men. By a fortuitous connection, the writing might appear to be paying reverence to the Trinitarian God: the first stanza to the Father, the second to Christ, the third to the Holy Spirit. It's just wonderful how a poem can take on a new life of it's own; not only for its author who comes back to it later and sees something unexpected but for the birthing of new perspectives with each individual reader!

      Brian, go into Poets here and find the poet Isaac Watts. I think you will also enjoy and be inspired by his series of "Hymn" poems. I appreciate your comment Brian and all the Christian support you give to all the new poets that come into Mypoeticside with their first poem. You give much of yourself to these souls, in patience and for the glory of God!

      A fine write G. I thought I was gonna get lost in some Latin or something with the 'Vult' wotsit! heehee. I only know a smidgeon of Latin.

      • Gary Edward Geraci

        Thank you orchidee! It was the Latin words Deus Vult (God wills it) that inspired the three syllable lines for this poem. That's a smidgeon more Latin than I know!

        The kerfuffle is often over the word 'Trinity' which does not appear in the Bible. But there's enough in the Scriptures to convince us of a Trinity = Tri-Unity.

        • Gary Edward Geraci

          Indeed orchidee-great point. What a mystery this Trinity! Fortunately, much has been written on supporting, Biblical revelation beginning way back with the early church fathers. See my reply to "Damaged Soul"
