Even Between

Baylee

Broken heart

A common term

overused

and underappreciated

The term forms the image in our minds

of a clean break

even between the two halves

equal parts

of the same heart

Oh,

if only you had been

that kind.

Like the seed of a fruit tree you crack open only to destroy the life inside .

Very nicely said, great poem. And yes, broken just means it is not whole anymore. I guess what you refer to in your last three lines is a "shattered" heart.
