Games. By:Katy Alvarez

Katy Alvarez

My happiness and my depression are like games.

My happiness seems to never be played with, but my depression is like a video game that everyone plays with.

They tell us that are dreams can come true. I guess they forgot that nightmares are dreams too.

It seems that my happiness stopped working, just like anything I play with.

My depression, is always there. Somehow it never stops working and if it did it probably has a warranty, so it would come right back.

Maybe one day, my happiness will work but until that day my depression will always win.

WELCOME KATY ~ Thanks for your first poem ~ Elegantly penned but with a very sad (but all too common) message. We all wish people would pleasure us and play with our HAPPINESS ~ but NO ~ it is our anxieties they chose to focus on ! In my experience and as a Student (16 to 30) Counselor ~ Depression always seems to override Happiness so that is what people see and focus on ~ whereas inside we only want to be pleasured. I trust you will have many Good Days when your depression will be suppressed by your HAPPINESS. Thanks for sharing ~ every Blessing ~ BRIAN (UK). Please check my poems ~ Thanks B

Oh those fickle emotions! Always coming and going with the right ones leaving early and the wrongs hanging out and staying late. Your poem describes a game we indeed need to figure so that we start winning at it more times than we lose at it. If you are writing for a friend or loved one, please point them to the wonderful resources found at NAMI...Thanks for your inaugural poem.
