Stuck In The Bubble

Edthepoet

Past a certain age
They say
You can't be someone new
Your trapped in a land
Made of what they think of you

Your ambition is a sandbag
And there thoughts are made of glue
Your indecision fuels there judgement
And you stand accused

They sentence you to dream of
Who you could have become
If instead of picking up Rita
You picked up a guitar

You can take the boy
out the town
but not the town out the boy
Everybody comes back
Mostly unemployed

Why would you want to leave here
We are the salt of the earth
Well I've got high cholesterol
And an aversion to dirt

Stuck in the bubble
Council estate jungle
50p in the meter
Let's play knock down ginger
Stuck in the bubble
Michelle likes rough and tumble
I prefer her sister
She's a much better kisser
Stuck in the bubble
a mumble and a chuckle
A hustle through the struggle
They'd make a lovely couple..
...isn't she his second cousin?

Caught talking to the bobbys
There will be double trouble.

Stuuuuuck in the buuuuuble.

Say it like it is on the street. That's what you did with a bit of tongue in cheek here. If that's you in there, leave, new horizons, new challenges, new existence = new you.

They say that the only difference between a rut and a grave is depth.
Great writing, great humor in a poem addressing some serious matter. As a two-time emigrant/immigrant all I can say is get out before that rut becomes a grave.
