End of the Road

Even when you're there

We sit together but exist in our own little worlds,

When did our paths divide?

When did we stop travelling side by side?

No more talk,no shared laughter

Now we move in parallel lines,

No intimacy, no shared plans

As our paths no longer intertwine,

We meet in the same company

But we have no shared topics

Alone, even in a crowded room

No longer viewed as in each other's pockets,

When did it begin, this loneliness?

The end of the road we travelled together,

When did you move to another path?

Leaving me with only memories to treasure?

Time for me to accept it's over

Time to live our separate lives

Was it ever love or just a response to loneliness?

And an opportunity to banish it from our sides?

Over half my life has been shared with you

It's taken a long, hard journey to realise

It was loneliness masquerading as love

And life is too short to continue living lies.

    dear sue,

I really admire your strength. I also like the way you highlighted each verse with a single word and then elaborated on that word. very well done!

Thank you for such positive feedback๐Ÿ‘

Ohhhhhhh SUE ~ I wasn't expecting this from one so vibrant and positive in your outlook and Poetry to date ! I'm not married (yet) so i have to experience the ECSTASY (and the AGONY) which I am sure will come ! The negativity of the STATES you describe ~ LONELY ~ SOLITARY ~ SECLUDED ~ FORLORN ~ DESOLATE ~ ESTRANGED do exist in community ~ families ~ friendship & courtship etc BUT ~ They must cut much deeper in a relationship (marriage) which you thought would stay warm forever ~ so so sad. Thanks for CARING & SHARING ~ Thinking of you and praying for you ~ Hugs ~ Your Friend BRIAN

My poem was in response to a friend going through this- not myself.

I feel for you it is sad. You are a strong woman and things will get better.

It is an excellent read and I feel the pain
