They wake us in the morning
Steal the air from our throat
Making us choke in our lungs
Hit us with the same emotions
Strip us bare from love
Having to face our fears throughout each day
They manipulate our brains
Mixing up the wires
Bathe within our blood
Make us conspire
They follow us on each path
Stalk us through the day and night
Trip us up at any chance
Falling at every fright
They join us in the bath
Where our tears drain
Lurk behind the shadows
Settle in the corners of our brains
They sneak within the sheets
Mutter in our ears
Sit at the end of the bed
Ready to possess
Attack us in our dreams
The only place of peace
They sleep under the bed
But aren’t truly to rest
Only we can do that
If we’re brave
Their the lotion we put on our skin
They sink deep within
Their the food we eat
Digested
Making our organs weep
Their only our demons
We’ve been betrayed by our sins
We all have them
Only you choose if they win

Great!
We weep for the willow which never sheds a tear
We smile for the memories we hold dear
It is only when we sin it becomes clear
That a Judeo-Christian life can be one of fear
So put what lurks under the bed
Out of your head
For soon they will come and take you for dead
Dead, dead and gone and another heart will beat on
To occupy your space but never to take your place
In this world of words left can be right
And sunrise could just be night
Forget it all and hear the call of your youth
That I see in your image in all truth
For those who write are never really home
And an author is forever alone
BR
Thank you
Always and forever half full - a poem with great hope - a real good 'un Shannon.
Thank you 😊
I'm loving the obscure imagery you've created here & the way you let it run from beginning to end. Great flow, excellent write.
Thank you so much 😊
Shannon, this great well written poem hammers at the reader relentlessly until salvation appears in the last four lines.
Excellent writing, it really drew me in.
Thank you really appreciate the comment
Wow Shanon. Great. What an awesome write. I call them ego. What it. They are not only under the bed but they are within us. Thanks for your piece of art.
Thank you so much 😊
There's a demon within us all. Whether to befriend them, use them, fear them, is all up to the individual. Good poetry.
Thank you
