Tune: Bread of life [Sherwin]
('Break thou the bread of life, Dear Lord to me')
Hebrews 7 v.24 - 28
**********
1. Jesus continues on
He the true Son
Of the Father above
Shows us His love
Unchangeable priesthood
Has He, for good
So He able to save
His life He gave
2. Saves to th uttermost
In Him our boast
Who by Him to God come
The total sum
For He does ever live
Graces does give
For us He intercedes
His life it pleads
3. He such a high priest is
Glory in this
Full human, full divine
One Saviour fine
Holy, harmless, he be
Undefiled, see
Separate from sinners
No sin allures
4. Higher than heavens made
The price He paid
For our salvation sure
For evermore
Not daily offering
As days Old [Covenant] bring
Nor many sacrifice[s]
One would suffice
5. Himself that offering
We to Him sing
Himself the sacrifice
Ne'er made out twice
He Son for alway
Here our New [Covenant] day
High priest eternally
To us He be

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 6464 6464 metre. It is originally in 10.10.10.10. metre. With shorter lines, it is a bit staccato in places, maybe missing a few 'linking' words of 'and', 'so', etc.
