Monday Morning Blues

Edward Charles McDevitt

Mostly I arouse with the dawning of day break,

Only today, my phone had startled me awake!

Now fully alert, I must rise and start my day,

Didn't think that my day would start this way!

Another week ahead, not starting like it should,

Yet onward I'll go, just like any other would.

Maybe it will be one better than before,

On to daily chores, nothing to ignore.

Really doesn't have to be a day I can't enjoy,

Not too hard for me, just knowledge to employ.

I have to put in here, somehow a favorite bird,

Nothing that difficult, just have to find the word.

Got the right one on my mind and it is a male,

Bet you were thinking of a Nightingale!

Let me tell you this, it's not what you had thought,

Under a little pressure, it's a Cardinal I sought.

Ending this write, I'll just say "Have a happy day!",

So long to the blues, I'll be on my merry way!

  • Comment from author about the poem: There you go, Monday morning blues.. Someone requested a favorite bird to be included in a poem (on the 5th). I already had the poem for that day, so I included the bird in this one. I hope I didn't disappoint!

Nice write, my favourite line would be "just knowledge to employ" 😀
