The Place Where Stardom Dies

Allan Fitzgerald

There's a man just down the hall,

Who sits singing on the floor.

He says he's the Man in Black,

"Hello I'm Johnny Cash".

There's a girl in '62,

Never known for being blue.

She talks about Kennedy,

And the star she used to be.

There are lots of special people,

Who have always wondered why.

Why they had to leave the spotlight,

For the Place Where Stardom Dies.

There's Buddy in '59,

Whose plane went down one winter night.

And a funny man named Robin,

Who lost the guiding light.

There's a King just down below him,

Who ruled all of Rock n' Roll.

He came in here from Graceland,

When he fell off his throne.

There's a Prince caught in the Purple Rain,

And an Eagle that no longer flies,

Who now reside in this Hall of Shame,

Called the Place Where Stardom Dies.

There's Kurt who cries above them,

Loud enough to wake the dead.

They don't know what Love had done,

To make him paint his bedroom red.

There's a beadle turned a Beatle,

That flied, and flied, and flied.

They brought him in this morning,

When he was shot by the Catcher in the Rye.

There are those who once made it,

But now are left without their pride.

Some came and some were forced,

To the Place Where Stardom Dies.

Though the fame still remains,

They can do no more than cry.

And yearn for one last chance,

To escape the Place Where Stardom Dies.
