Abandoned

sue.evans

A flame dimmed by deception and disloyalty,
Left spluttering and guttering in hot liquid tears,
Snuffed out by the rapid wind of change;
Blackened, discarded, replaced and forgotten
No place or purpose - left darkened and chilled
Choking on the smog of failure and humiliation,
Failed by the duplicitous actions of others.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem was a response to a series of events that resulted in me choosing early retirement from a job I loved. When you give your all to something and then realise loyalty is not a two way thing you feel so let down by people you trusted. Still sore a year later!

    It felt like being betrayed. Enjoy this break, something better is waiting for you. Nice poem.

    Good write, some people can let you down very badly. You are out of it now so look ahead to your new freedom.
