Prayer Prosperings

Tune: Taizé Chant

('O Lord, hear my prayer')

Psalm 62

********

O God, hear my cry

I feel you are nigh

Listen, pass me not by

From the earth's far end

My prayer you I send

Come to me, to me tend

When o'erwhelmed my heart

Is, do not depart

From me, come me and quiet

To the rock me lead

Higher than I, plead

I, see, come meet my need

For you have been sure

A shelter e'ermore

Unto me, I adore

You, a strong tower

You are every hour

Inspire me with your power

You from enemy

Have defended me

Rescued, saved, I now be

And I will abide

In your tent reside

Under your wings confide

God, you my vows heard

You heard every word

Your ear to me conferred

You have given me

The heritage, see

Those who fear you, they be*

(*i.e. the heritage are the people who fear God)

The king's life will last

Generations fast

Future glories and past

Before God he shall

Abide, ever tell

Of His graces, fair, well

Prepare truth, mercy

Which shall to him be

To preserve him, and free

Him from troubles here

He (the king) offers vows clear

So praises your name dear

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 556 556 metre. The first three lines are as a 'unit', as are the second three lines. This slips up a bit on the last verse. It's confined to the short number of syllables per line. These chants, often one verse only, are repeated several times. I say repeated...... heehee!

Another glorious addition to your collection Orch. Your style still manages to keep me thrilled. Well done once again my friend.

Thanks N. Sometimes I try to be long on purpose. Aww, some very long hymns in some hymn-books are never, or only hardly ever, sung! Shorter ones are good too though.

Indeed. I don't mind them one bit. Bravo~
