Men Just Do

Jonathan Taylor

I'l let you walk first across the road

just to watch you walk.

Ah see here I failed!

You want to feel my strength

and security.

Let you know, you mean more to me

than a second chance.

To contemplate all the things I said

to peel my skin back and see all red.

I said as intended

in my insecure mind.

To think you are a man, means you are blind

A man does as a man should

to think just means that a man could.

Can I burn the youth inside of me?

Not the goofy one but the procrastinator

And watch it burn.

Like our bloodshot eyes on Sunday mornings.

My fork grew heavier with every meal.

This is not how a man should feel because,

I was growing weak

or because every mouthful went without return.

I'm sorry, I love you, the man inside loves you.

The child you see, just forgot to.

What a great poem. I loved the lines; "Can I burn the youth inside of me? and "And watch it burn?" Sometimes I've wondered the same
