The Road not Taken

I've once heard of this path before.

Some said to have traveled it, but sadly became lore.

Now headed to it's direction, I soon wondered.

If those clouds above it, has ever thundered.

As I approached this threshold of bone and sorrow.

I stared into what was dark, and found it hollow.

I cross over this dark margin of despair.

And into a world full of the debonair.

As if that menacing line was a facade.

Only to reveal a region of the greatest awe.

Roads paved carefully with only the finest marble.

And the buildings built of the purest metal.

I ventured onward to reach the end of this dream.

I saw the exit at the end of a sunbeam.

Now reluctant to cross into such a mediocre world.

I take one step, and the image behind me becomes whirled.

This road was once a symbol of fear.

Now becoming a totem of wealth and cheer.

People still see it as this road not taken.

But many travel to find it wildly awakened.

    Very well penned, C.L.
We tend to wonder if the other road would have been better, where it would have led us, and if there really is a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. But, alas, we will never know.

Good write. Many are cautious about taking that road but that first step on it can open up our future lives.
