MEMORIES OF YOUTH

lasergraph

I can remember long ago,

Just like it was yesterday,

When I was just a youngster,

Running out to play.

We didn't have a cell phone,

Nor owned a video game.

Our friends actually stood  beside us,

And we knew them all by name.

Car seats weren't  yet invented,

We would stand up in the front seat,

We rode in the back of pickup trucks,

And jumped out in the street.

Summers found us working,

And that kept us from harm,

Lots of things that needed done,

When we lived out on the farm.

We were taught that life's not easy,

We knew it wasn't always fair.

Some people had more than we had,

We just didn't care.

So many held by hatred,

Too many who are stressed.

I guess I was too busy,

To ever get depressed.

We lived across the street from a huge cornfield and would get lost in it, when we weren't climbing every tree in the neighborhood, or walking down to the river to fish. Kids miss so much today! Well done poem, lg!

We went on camping trips and for the most part took care of our self. We were self reliant and didn't need to be entertained. I miss many of those times, like fish fry's at the lake at midnight.

"We were taught that life's not easy,
We knew it wasn't always fair.
Some people had more than we had,
      We just didn't care."
Today's young kids always whine for fair and more.
Hard work indeed kept depression away.
      Very well written memories.

I think we learned so much that applied to life. We didn't have our head buried in a cell phone.

The smart phone simply make people stupid.

I think most of us who were born before the digital age had a much different childhood experience.

You must be the brother I didn't know I had. This is my childhood as well. We played baseball, football, hide-and-go-seek, rode our bikes. We were outdoors all day long. Miss all those days. Great write my friend. ; )

We never came into the house till it got dark out. Now days if kids are out and haven't come in at5 dark you have to call the cops out to find out what happened to them. It was a much more innocent time.

Yes, and you didn't have to lock your doors back then either. I miss those days.

Very true lg. We went out just after breakfast and joined our friends and played all day using that thing called imagination. Or exploring our local area, we never came to any harm and learnt a great deal about nature and ourselves.

We learned to rely on ourselves. It was a good training ground for adulthood.
