Aa Harvey

Notebook

You have to write what’s in front of you.

If you save it for later, it will disappear from view.

If you avoid the centre-stage and go off in search of another story,

The price you will pay is the chance of what might have been.

“If we each have a destiny,

Or if we’re all just floating around accidental like on a breeze.”

Just think of what we could see.

Empty your thoughts so new words can exist.

Say what you must, there is no avoiding it.

If you don’t want to write that

And put it to the back of your mind,

It will find a way to reveal once more,

The thoughts you cannot push aside.

It will seep into other thoughts and you will get only snippets;

When the full poem is waiting for you to go and write it.

So half will be written and half of another will be too much.

Put the right words, in the right place, at the right time…

Or give up.

Some of my best are recovered from half written ideas. Often i want to alter the ones which flow quickly and i publish straight away. My poem of yesterday is an example of that. Nice writing.

      Thank you.

      "You can be the greatest,
      You can be the best...

You can throw your hands up!
You can beat the clock (yeah)...

      Don't wait for luck.
      Dedicate yourself and you gone find yourself;
Standing in the hall of fame (yeah)
And the world's gonna know your name (yeah)
'Cause you burn with the brightest flame (yeah)
And the world's gonna know your name (yeah)
And you'll be on the walls of the hall of fame...

      You can be the hero,
      You can get the gold.
Breaking all the records they thought never could be broke.
Yeah, do it for your people,
      Do it for your pride.
How are you ever gonna know if you never even try?"

Well written, Aa! But it is not always easy to put the right words in the right place at the right time!

      • Aa Harvey

I agree, it's not always easy to put the right words in the right place at the right time, but I will still try to find the right words for the moment...

        "I've giving up, giving up,
        Because enough is enough.
We're in luck 'cause we're in love.
        It's true, with you.
        I'm giving up, giving up
Because I need, need your touch,
I miss your kiss way too much.
If I could only be where you want me to be I'll be there.
If I could only be where you want me to be I'll be there."

I try to avoid the nightmare of what could have been. Am more comfortable writing down some seminal thoughts and then proceed at the right time. You captured the essence of what it takes to make creativity flourish.

Thank you. I just give people my thoughts and hope they can connect with the poetry that I write.

"Looking out at the road rushing under my wheels.
Looking back at the years gone by like so many summer fields.
In sixty-five I was seventeen and running up one-o-one,
I don't know where I'm running now, I'm just running on...

          Running on...

In sixty-nine I was twenty-one and I called the road my own.
I don't know when that road turned onto the road I'm on...

          Running on...

Everyone I know, everywhere I go,
People need some reason to believe.
I don't know about anyone but me.
If it takes all night, that'll be all right,
If I can get you to smile before I leave...

Looking out at the road rushing under my wheels.
I don't know how to tell you all just how crazy this life feels.
I look around for the friends that I used to turn to, to pull me through.
Looking into their eyes I see them running too...

          Running on...
          Running on...
          Running on..."

            Beautifully written. Really.

            • Aa Harvey

Thank you, but when I reply to a comment, I use other peoples lyrics / words. If it is in "Quotation marks", then it is the words of an artist. This is a song by Jackson Browne called 'Running on empty' and on the YouTube video, the video has clips from the film Forrest Gump and the quotation in my poem is a quote from Forrest Gump. I'm glad you liked it.

Thanks for clarifying. apt choice for the subject at hand.
