Another Day Gone

FredPeyer

Another day gone

Just like yesterday

Getting up

Going to bed

With nothing in-between

The nothing not important

Sleep does not come

Why get up

For nothing?

An empty mind

For an empty day

Think hard

There could be

Something more

Than nothing

Something to give

Some meaning

To the day

Something to help

Turn simple existence

Into glorious life

Nothing comes to mind

Just another day gone

  • Comment from author about the poem: Just got back from three beach days on Maui. This is a poem I wrote back in February this year. Not so good, but am using it as a filler until something better comes along!

    Thanks Martina,
can't wait to read your poem!
Now it is time to catch up on my sleep.

I really like this! My mind is ticking

    • FredPeyer

Thanks PD, as long as your mind is ticking, it is all good!

Hard to imagine you only started writing poetry this year, Fred. Your poem reminds me of my early retirement period when the dread of a routine life was getting to me and had to leave. Miami of all places. You put it so well for those of us who've been there!

      • FredPeyer

Thanks Seek! We all go through these periods, but then, suddenly, the sun comes out, and life is good! Are you still in Miami? If yes, hope you made it allright!!!

        • Seek

No left Miami a year and a half ago. Still have friends there though. Regardless, thanks for the thought.

The muse will return soon, as it has with these words.

Mahalo Goldfinch, as she always does, she might go on vacation once in a while, but eventually she'll be back!

Ta-dah! And so you 'Turn simple existence, Into glorious life'. But how? Why, another of your fine poems appeared, that's how! heehee. Will flattery get me everywhere?!

            • FredPeyer

You already know that flattery will get you everywhere, anytime, Orchidee! Thank you for reading and commenting.

            • Louis Gibbs

Thornton Wilder's award winning play "Our Town", a production of which I'm currently participating in, focuses beautifully on the appreciation of every moment of life as we live it, including the 'mundane' moments, which are only fully appreciated after death.
Understandably hard to appreciate though after beach days on Maui!

              • FredPeyer

Wow, Louis, you are not only a gifted writer, but also an actor? Do you sing and play as well?

                • Louis Gibbs

Used to sing, but my voice is shot. Only played the ukulele.

                • WL Schuett

I guess everyone relates to this I know I do , nicely expressed

                  • FredPeyer

Thanks WL! But then we do have glorious days to make up for these slow ones!

                    • WL Schuett

                      Thank goodness lol

                    • dusk arising

These days all to frequent when your prime is past. 'with nothing in between, the nothing not important' kind of says it all. Well crafted for the subject.

                      • FredPeyer

                        Thanks da!

                      • myself and me

                        "Think hard
                        There could be
                        Something more
                        Than nothing"
Reading your poem is something good to do, that is what I am doing now.

                        • FredPeyer

M&M, if reading my poem is 'something good to do', then I am really feeling sorry for you! You should read your own, that would be a lot better!!!

                          • myself and me

I have not written for several days. Nothing in my mind.

                            • FredPeyer

                              It's called 'recharging the batteries'!

                              • myself and me

                                I have a slow charger.
