Tune: Albano
('Once, only once, and once for all')
*******
1. Since you invite us, come to feast
From greatest unto least
At your Communion table spread
You there, the living bread
2. And too wine poured, your life you gave
Each sinner for to save
These simple gifts, rich treasure-store
Sustain us evermore
3. Bread for your body, broken here
We feel your presence near
Wine for your blood, for us outpoured
Your name be e'er adored
4. We cannot earn, cannot obtain
Life, our own efforts vain
But you life give us in your Son
He the redeeming one
5. Come sanctify me, me forgive
And I through you shall live
Shall reverently partake sure
You are our heart's-ease cure
6. I come to share with Christ's people
He meets with one and all
None else has died for me, nor could
Do so, e'en if they would
7. For you only the sinless one
Jesus the Father's Son
Gave up yourself, an offering
To you we humbly sing
8. Eat and drink in remembrance
Of Christ's death, it do sense
With prepared heart, mind, meet your Lord
He the life giving Word

- Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8686 metre (Common metre = CM). Written, recalling some places that 'mess about' with crossing oneself too much, rites, rituals, etc , let alone trans-wotsit (transubstantion). I was worn out just noticing someone up and down like jack-in-a-box!
