Harvey brought us destruction,
Irma brought us some more.
Living up to all the expectations,
Of what we would soon have in store.
Water over the rooftops,
Cars trapped in a tree.
People being rescued by rowboat,
Houses washed out into the sea.
Victims all huddled in shelters,
With nothing but what's on their back.
The things they are given in the shelter,
Is a reminder of all that they lack.
Tragedy always seems to unite us,
We are always our strongest when stressed.
When challenges keep coming at us,
That's when we bring out our best.
It is time to show our devotion,
With promises that you can believe.
The time is now to get busy,
It's time to roll up our sleeve.

This is a great poem. Now as you say, time to get busy! We need to be able to send relief or donate for those of us who can. What awful tragedies. But I loved the poem!
Thank you, much appreciated.
Well written and expressed
love your rhythm and rhyme
Thoughtful write laser.
You wrote a very poignant and timely poem, lasergraph! Very well written, love the rhyme, and especially love the last stanza.
"It's time to roll up our sleeve".
Roll up our sleeve, to save ourselves. That's the right spirit.
Well done.
Gee, maybe we should have elected a poet as president. Excellent writing here my friend. ; )
No political aspirations here.
None here either. ; )
The best people for the job, don't want it.
And the ones who want it care nothing for the people they represent. hmmm, I think we've stumbled onto the modern day definition of "politician". So sad. : (
It is almost showing that if the apocalipse is to happen it is really to redeem people. Sometimes people only learn with pain. Great writing.
Tragedies like this always bring people together, why can't they be like this in normal times. Good write.
