Why?

FredPeyer

Why?

Three years old

His favorite word

At sixty nine

I forget to ask

Forget to wonder

Forget to question

Need to get back

To the innocence

The curiosity

To see the world

Through the eyes

Of a three year old

And ask again, why?

yes, why can' we resurrect those memories?

    • FredPeyer

Thanks Kevin, I think the problem is that we lose the innocence a three year old has.

So so true Fred - -reminds me of what was reported that Christ said as he pointed to young children - "unless you become like one of these you will not see" - -

      • FredPeyer

You are right Fay, thans, didn't think of that though when I wrote it.

      • Accidental Poet

I'm fast approaching 61 and I'm the same as you Fred. Where did the childlike innocence go? We all need to see through the eyes of a child sometimes. Great write Fred. ; )

Thank you AP, you spring chicken!

A fine write Fred. Yet if we ask 'Why' as adults, it's often something really complicated and involved, and the answer can be 'Don't know'.

            • FredPeyer

Thank you orchidee, you are absolutely right, but I think that as adults we don't ask why often enough. Ask why also when something seems simple.

            • WL Schuett

I like this Fred not sure I would like to be questioning why to everything but neither Do I want to be so calloused that I never ask why ....good thoughts good poem

              • FredPeyer

Thanks WL, you are right, asking why all the time would drive everybody crazy. But sometimes we accept things just because we got used to it, or because we don't care, or for whatever other reason, instead of asking ourselves why we are doing it.

              • Christina8

To be young and innocent again. I wouldn't want to relive my 3 yr old self again but I get what you mean. To see the world through the eyes of a child and ask why and question everything!

                • FredPeyer

Mahalo Christina! Maybe not everything, but just get out of our daily routine and think about why we are doing certain things.

                • dusk arising

Do you really want a diaper already Fred? Is there something you're not telling us?

Actually i think this current fashion of 'mindfulness' may be just the solution you seek.

                  Enjoyed reading you.

                  • FredPeyer

Thanks da! Funny you should mention diapers. You know we are born naked, no teeth, in diapers. And that is exactly how we leave this world again: naked, no teeth, in diapers. I leave the 'Why" up to you! 🙂

                      Between life and death.....

well thats why they invented the toilet....

to deal with all the s..t inbetween

                      • FredPeyer

Thanks! I needed a laugh! That's why there is no difference between life and a children's T-shirt. Both are too short and full of s..t!

                      • Goldfinch60

The innocence of childhood is so wonderful and seeing it in children is so uplifting, it is such a shame that the real world intrudes on this innocence. Good write Fred.

                        • FredPeyer

Thank you Goldfinch. Yes, it would be nice if we could keep at least some of that innocence while growing up.

If you really want that view
                          Mother nature provides for you
A few nice Mushrooms will nicely do
Taking you back to all being new

                          Great work my friend

                          • FredPeyer

                            Mahalo PD, don't forget I am a child of the 60's! 🙂

                            • Poetic Dan

                              Haha

                            • malubotelho

Hey Fred, you need to chose if you want to be like an innocent child or the sexual beast from the slave poem. One don't go with the other. Haha 😂
Right now the closest we can get to be innocent is being playful.
Maybe we can get at least being teenagers.

                              • FredPeyer

Thanks Malu, didn't think of it, but you are right, these two consecutive poems don't really go well with each other. But then, we all have these different aspects within ourselves. As the country song goes about women: To be an angel by day and a devil by night?
But being a teenager again is definitely out, even though I did enjoy that time in my life.

                              • myself and me

Why? Since most of the time you know the why, or you do not care about the why. Now my favorite is " I know" even though I don't. Ha ha.

                                • FredPeyer

Thanks M&M, and it is the same with kids. The 'I know' usually follows the 'why'!
