NEVER

lasergraph

(c) 2015 by Edward York

Your life ended when you were young,

And you never got to be.

So many things you never had,

And never got to see.

Even though protected as much we could,

You never had a chance.

To walk the halls with friends at school,

Or ever find romance.

You never smelled a flower,

Or watched a bird in flight.

You never saw a sunset,

As it faded into night.

You never climbed a mountain,

And never rode a train,

You never held your lover’s hand

While dancing in the rain.

You never worked a job in life,

And you were never grown,

You never got to hold your arms,

Around children of your own.

Wow! What a poem. I can only imagine what it's like to lose a child.

Time helps but it was very sorrowful at the time.

A heart-wrenching poem about a heart-wrenching experience, LG! One of life's toughest. My condolences.

It was 40 years past but I reflect often.

I know what you mean ... 32 years past from my loss. Doesn't go away.

Oh, this gave me the chills and my eyes welled up. I have suffered loss too, so thanks for sharing this personal poem with me. But this poem isn't about me, it's about YOU and I am very sorry for your loss. I felt your sadness every line I looked at. Very well written. My condolences!

Hopefully some healing will come through writing of this. I read a little book of a 13yo passing away, called 'Another lily gathered (to heaven)'.

It was 40 years ago so time has helped fade the event.

Thank you so much, lasergraph, for sharing this with us. As a parent I know that losing a child is the hardest thing one could imagine. But losing a baby is even harder. Your poem is such a lovely tribute to this child.

This is so sad Lasergraph. Makes me think of a person who is so special to me. She will never do most of those things and i felt this sadden my heart.

Poetry is born in the heart and matures in the soul.

My condolences for your loss. Anyone who loses a child goes through a gauntlet of pain unmatched anywhere. Like you said, they never got to grow and do so many of the tings that many take for granted. ((((HUGS)))) my friend.

I'm sure they do. Anything so close to the heart will always be on your mind. ; )
