I am a beautiful butterfly
And life is a cocoon,
Inside it, I am safe
But trapped.
I can't spread my wings
With the weight of the world suppressing me
I can't be my true self
I have spent too long
In this bubble
It's all too familiar and grey,
And I can no longer breathe
There isn't enough room for people like me
Perhaps it's time I set myself free
To find adventure
To create a different future
In a different world
With more beautiful butterflies.

WELCOME MELANIE ~ Thanks for an elegantly written Poem with a challenging message. Yourr Poem is free verse but it has plenty of flow and rhythm ! With my Students we have raised BUTTERFLIES from eggs ! Egg ~ Caterpillar ~ Cocoon ~ Butterfly ~ AWESOME ! Personally I feel i went into a COCOON STAGE @ 7 ~ 14 ~ 21 and emerged older & stronger. A Butterfly and a Caterpillar look entirely different but (in the cocoon) are made from the same material. At 14 I was different from 7 and at 21 very different from 14.
