All through our life
We try to find them,
Those wonderful opportunities
That are so big
That they can change our lives;
If only we could find them.
But as we look for them in hope,
We miss many things.
Miss so many smaller opportunities
That surround us all the time.
They could bring so much joy
To our lives,
If only we could see them.
We appear to be blind to them,
As we look for something bigger.

- Comment from author about the poem: Those opportunities are all around us, do not miss them. Something different to listen to, I never did see them back in the seventies, but wish I had.

Good write and true Gold. meanwhile - I miss the smaller opportunities of adding water to people's whisky! hehe.
Thanks Orchi - not for the water though.
Goldfinch, you touched on something very elementary here, something we are all guilty of. Finding and taking advantage of these smaller opportunities could have changed many lives for the better.
Great poem! Got me thinking!
Thank you Fred, it is something we all do, those lesser opportunities make our lives.
Like seeing one oak tree... yet ignoring the rest of the forest... Blind to what he/she doesn't know. Valid point.
Thank you UV92, very true.
Yes, we are blind most of the time because we have our mind scattered everywhere. We end up missing an entire life because of no concentration or attention. Very nice writing.
Thank you Malu, yes we miss so much on our life's journey.
Gold, yes, you're gold... Thanks for sharing the "opportunity" to read your poem. Thoughtful and true. Opportunities abound, but many times we miss the boat. Thanks, great write.
Thank you rr, you are most kind.
I have missed many but have learned not to dwell ... now I live with my eyes open and the small stuff is the best stuff ...thanks for another great poem
Thank you WL, it is amazing how the little things can light up our lives.
I just finished participating in a local theater production of Thornton Wilder's play, "Our Town", which speaks so beautifully and powerfully to this theme ... the importance of the 'small things' in life. A well done poetic reminder of this, Goldie!
Thank you Louis, I do hope the production went well.
