realization

the title of king belonged to you,

with eyes filled with galaxies.

you promised to stay true

and those words left me at ease.

you traced constellations on my skin

and left drops of moonlight in my hands.

with one kiss you erased my sins,

but you left me here, where i still stand.

you were my sun, my moon, my stars;

everything i had wished upon.

i dreamt of dancing with you on Mars,

then you disappeared when dusk met dawn.

you told me stories of the planets;

how they all fell in love,

and i felt like you and i were magnets

yet, you left me for the skies above.

after crying tears of silver and stardust,

i realized something i should've known:

loving myself is a must

and that i deserve my own throne.

  • Comment from author about the poem: this poem is about the need and realization of self love, a topic which is very close to my heart, especially after being mistreated by someone who you admired.

    WELCOME ZETA ~ Thanks for your first Poem ! It has excellent STRUCTURE ~ five balanced QUATRAINS and a consistent rhyme pattern abab cdcd etc. The SUBJECT starts sadly with REJECTION by ends with RESOLVE ~ to be the best you can be ! The BIBLE says we should love our NEIGHBOUR as OURSELVES. If you have NO SELF ESTEEM ~ we can't hep anybody ! Yours BRIAN (UK)
