there is clean air
clear air
above
methodically
he continues climbing
the light
is not revealing
but neither
can it be said
to be dark
his hands
find their holds
his feet grip
to lift him
one place higher
he climbs
he climbs
it ends
in a sudden moment
vertical
is gone
he lies
horizontal
across the top
then upright
to breathe in the clean
to inspire
a full breath
of clear
and feel the buoyancy
of laughter
rise within him
a run
of just three steps
ya-ho
ya-hoo
near
and nearer
behind
he has launched
himself
towards the centre
of the abyss
begins to fall
arms wide
and feathers primed
he starts to ride the current
feel the updraft
circling in slow
evolving spirals
he flies
yeh
ya-ho
ya-hey

At first I read as a man climbing and towards the end as a great bird flying - for me it's this enigma that is so appealing in this well crafted piece. I am left wondering and using my own imagination.
Hi Michael. Yes, a little bit enigmatic but definitely with feathers for the flying. Glad there's room for your own imagination. That's the way it ought to be, I think. Thank you.
A fine write Frank. A bird-man!
Hiya O. It'd be grand wouldn't it? See you up there.
Frank, when I was young I had a private pilot license, was flying single engine small planes. Even though your poem is talking about a bird, it did bring back memories! When you are up there, you really do feel free!
I can only imagine Fred. Happy memories for you, I bet. Thank you.
Mountain climber becomes bird-man ... an enigma indeed, but intriguing. Fine poem, Frank!
Thank you Louis. Let's do it.
