Thinking fondly of the past
Memories that will forever last
Wondering where the time has gone
Waiting for a new exciting dawn
Seems like it was just yesterday
When life was only fun and play
No more innocence and open mind
Left all my youthful ideals behind
The many years of working hard
Left soul and mind a little scarred
Yesterday’s lofty happy dreams
Are just a shell now, or so it seems
I did not make the world a better place
When gone will nary leave a trace
Should not the purpose of my being here
To be sent off one day with praise and cheer
I guess for the rest of my remaining days
The choice should be to mend my ways
Reach out to others, be a better man
And do as much good as I possibly can
It might not be much, but at least I tried
To live a life with purpose and pride
And maybe, just maybe there could be a trace
That I did leave this world a little better place

Oh I'm sure you have. I won't say 'did' as you've not departed yet! doh! Why, there's your poems for a start! And you've not killed anyone, blown anyone up, acted monstrously, etc. Nor have millions of others.
Orchidee, that is such a nice comment! And no, I never blew anybody up. But it is the little things we do wrong, or don't do, that make a difference.
Thanks Fred. Yes, I understand. We only see the 'big' things in the papers and news. No one's perfect (except you and me! lol). In a sense, no-one is 'good' naturally, though we're all made in God's image. So it's said of many - 'he's a good man (or good woman').
I can tell you one thing, the world's a better place just having you in it. The rest just comes naturally. Great write Fred. ; )
Thanks so much AP, that is a nice compliment, but a little bit over the top!
nah, You're right there at the top Fred. ; )
Great write, I agree with you it's the little things that make us or break us those things we do when nobody else is looking because we know it's the right thing to do. Those little things that keep us true to our nature or to make us the better person we all want to be.

Thank you MD, great comment! And it is not always easy, isn't it?
Nice reflection , you have a good spirit Fred
Thank you WL, the spirit is there, it is the execution that is sometimes lacking!
I think we all will be surprised at the many positive ways we touched the lives of others when we get to the 'instant replay' on the other side. Good, thought-provoking write, Fred!
Thank you, Louis, you may be right. I do believe that there will b a lot more than 'instant replay'. It will be more like a thorough debriefing!
This world will go on without us and the billions who have gone before. We need not make it a better place, or be remembered after we leave. Just give it our best go and close the door on the way out. The only effect we have is on those with whom we inter-react. If that makes a small piece of this world better, then so be it. Loved your poem. - Phil A.
Thank you Phil! Maybe you are right, maybe not. Sometimes a little thing we do might make somebody else do a bigger thing, etc. So who knows?
Good write Fred, the world is always a better place as you have gone through life trying to do your best and if in that life you have made even just one person smile or laugh that will always be with them, without you that joy may never have happened.
Thank you Goldfinch! I think that if we can make this world a better place for at least one other person, we are ok.
Fred, you are one of the most beautiful and talented person here. Actually you are awesome. And I truly believe you make all the difference in this world. For me just for the fact that you are a positive thinker, a happy soul, it is enough.
Thank you Malu, this is a very, very nice comment, but I do think it is over-rated! We are all beautiful and talented people here, and that includes you!
I thank you but this is how I feel.
